The winter weather has arrived in full force with wind, rain, snow, and freezing temperatures. My hope is that climbing will provide a reprieve from the oppressive winter forces on the islands and rouse the community from entering full hibernation.
Private events have picked up as people have realized that climbing is a fun and affordable way to socialize and stay in shape for the winter. Remember, almost everyone here is new to climbing, don’t be intimidated! We all started off as beginners.
Here are some of the most recent updates for Climb San Juan
- Sauna/hot tube/steamroom can now be added to climbing memberships for $21/month
- Routes now have unique names! If you have any good ones yourself, feel free to express that
- Route setting is now becoming a regular event. You don’t need any experience at all to join, in fact the more variable skill levels, and bodies we have in there to route set, the better! Check the website calendar for dates.
- Red holds have been installed, and filled out the whole gym now. I found new suppliers and was able to get a diversity of holds that have yet to be seen in the gym before. This lets us get more creative with route setting! Next up – white holds and wooden holds
- A brush has been ordered that will allow climbers to dust off holds without having to climb up. This will have an adjustable handle and be much larger.
- We are trying to incorporate yoga with climbing – stay tuned!
- Planning to add two new walls in the next few months and improve the top-rope belay bars
